PARENT INFO

Parent involvement is part of what makes MXIS a great school.  We welcome your involvement and appreciate

your ongoing support!

Ways to Connect

  • Attend IB meetings for your IB Diploma student.

  • Consider proctoring an IB exam.  Parent volunteers attend a training session in April and commit to proctoring one or more IB exams which take place in May.

  • Share possible CAS connections with us by contacting our CAS Coordinator.

  • Consider sharing your expertise in medicine, science, international relations, music, or other fields by being a guest speaker in any MXIS course.

  • Volunteer to assist students in preparing for college and careers.

  • Get involved to support student activities and academics at MXIS.

  • Provide us feedback about how we can make IB an even better experience for your son or daughter.  You can email us using the contact form found at the homepage.

Ways to Support your IB Student

  • Encourage personal responsibility and time management

  • Ensure that students have a solid system for organizing  information and important dates. This could include a  paper or online calendar (i.e. GoogleDocs) and a space in your home for the student to keep important documents.

  • Encourage students to study in a distraction-free environment.  It  may take students twice as long to complete their work if they are simultaneously using WeChat, Facebook, cellphone and Youtube.

  • Establish times at home to discuss and complete the college preparation and application process.

  • Remind students of the need for sleep.

  • Help students prioritize.  For example, Internal Assessment deadlines cannot be postponed and IAs form a part of the student’s overall IB subject score.  Some CAS activities that students plan offer more flexibility and students should plan those to allow adequate time for work on Internal Assessments.

  • Check the IB Exam schedule in May.  Save the dates!
